Jesper Strömblad leaves In Flames

Jesper Strömblad, lead songwriter, guitarist and last original member of In Flames, Sweden's greatest Metal act of all time (as voiced by the prime minister of Sweden) has decided to leave the band permanently for unconfirmed reasons, but not because of the band or its members, who have given him their full support.

This comes off the back of the "A Sense of Purpose" World Tour, and just before the probable news of returning to the studio to record In Flame's 10th studio album.

No replacement guitarist has been named, but with In Flames saying they will continue with the band, the most likely option is either a return from Niklas Engelin or Glenn Ljungström, both former guitarists of In Flames, with Niklas filling in for Bjorn during his absense on the Australia/South America/Japan leg of the world tour.

Jesper has said that he will continue to pursue a career in music, Metal or not.

The remaining members of In Flames have stated that the door is always open for Jesper to return, hopefully sooner rather than later, but due to Jesper's statement that he was "permanently leaving", this seems unlikely to happen.

Monday

Perth International airport, finally good for something

so tonight i was taking my relatives back to the airport so they could fly back home to england, and who should i meet at the airport but

MOTHERFUCKING MASTODON

thats right, i met mastodon.

fresh from their performance at Big Day Out, prog metal Kings Mastodon were sitting outside red roosters.

i saw them at first in the check out, but i couldnt be sure, brent was wearing a hat so i couldn't see his iconic tattoo. then i passed them in the duty free shop, looking at boomerangs. i was so nervous i was litteraly shaking with excitement. finally deciding it was them, i proceeded to go up to their table and said "excuse me, im a big fan of mastodon, its great to meet you guys". then they shook my hand and said its great to meet a fan, etc etc. to my surprise they were very open and chatted with me about the new album (crack the skye, a vast and sprawling concept album that expands on their old sound layered with harmony and brutality) and their upcoming tour of small clubs in Italy. still star struck, i went back to my table, and managed to grab something for them to sign.

rushing back, brent had gone into the departure area, and bill had dissapeared. i still manged to get brann and troys autographs, on the back of a cafe buisness card.

so yea. turned into one hell of an awesome day.

I MET MASTODON. XD XD XD XD

i can die happy now.
